How your upper teeth and sinuses are connected
The roots of the upper molars and premolars can sit very close to the maxillary sinus. That's why a scan of this area is useful before implants in the upper jaw, when planning a sinus lift, or when a dental problem may be behind sinus symptoms.
A sinus scan can show:
- The bone between the teeth or the ridge and the floor of the sinus.
- A thickened lining or fluid in the sinus.
- How roots and dental lesions relate to the maxillary sinus.
- The anatomy of any other sinuses included in the scan.
Airway
The scan shows the shape and size of the upper airway at the moment it was taken. It's useful background for orthodontists, ENT doctors and other specialists, but it doesn't replace a sleep study: the airway changes with posture, breathing and tongue position.
Scan size
The area depends on what your specialist needs to see. The order should say whether the scan covers the maxillary sinuses, all the sinuses or the airway; confirm the protocol with us on WhatsApp before you come.

Sinus and airway scan FAQ
Does it replace a medical sinus CT?
It depends on what needs to be evaluated. CBCT shows the bone and sinus walls very well; your doctor decides which study is right.
Can it diagnose sleep apnea?
No. It gives anatomical information about the airway, but diagnosing sleep apnea takes a medical evaluation and a sleep study.
Do I need a consultation at SAGA first?
No. Bring the order and message us on WhatsApp at least 15 minutes before you arrive.
How much does it cost?
$1,200 MXN, the same as any CBCT scan.
